A work at home job is another option for those who are without a job at the the moment; I have set up my own work from home business myself as the jobs situation in Merseyside became steadily worse over the past few years. I use to managed my very own building business in Liverpool but with recent government cut backs and the economic recession the call for construction jobs in Liverpool has decreased quite a lot. A large number of self-employed builders in Merseyside are in the same boat and are struggling to make a living at the present; things are really bleak in the development industry at the present.
As an option that I had read up on and also for something to do as an interest I decided to have a go at web marketing. This may seem a little frightening to anyone planning such a venture for the first time but it is really quite simple, when you wade through the ton of twaddle and conflicting information that there is circulating on the world wide web right now.
I sat around at home waiting for the phone to ring for a few weeks so I decided to set up a simple Internet site and put a number of Google AdSense ads on the site to see how it went. The project is a jobs blogging site that includes lots of useful stories on the theme of employment and careers. The site is targeted at the jobs in Liverpool market as I reckoned it would be quite a high traffic niche to go into as there is a lot of demand for jobs given the recent recession.
You may think that designing a web site takes a lot of technical skill but you would be surprised how easy it really is. My site is set up on Wordpress which is the most powerful and easy to use blog software programmes that there is. The other great thing about Wordpress is that it is totally free and the only thing that you need to buy is your domain name which you can buy for less than £10. The hardest part of the project is promoting the site, this takes effort and time and there are no real short cuts. The best way to do this is to write and submit articles and include a link back to your site either in the post or in the resource box. This is not a get rich quick scheme incidentally but it can make you a little extra cash, up to now my jobs site has made about £500 over the last few months and with a little bit of more work it should make far more. It may not be mega money but when the cheque comes through your letter box it comes in very helpful.
