The situation for employment in Liverpool at the present is a little on the miserable side, Liverpool has taken quite a hammering from the ravages of the never ending credit crunch and the cut backs by local and national governments that has affected not only the jobs situation in Liverpool but businesses and families nationwide.
The independantly employed are one of the hardest hit and the building and construction related industries have suffered significantly, due to the economic slowdown. Self-employed plumbers, joiners and builders to mention just a few are are finding it incredibly difficult to make a profit. A great many of my business associates used to earn a healthy living from the construction industry but now are racking there brains for other profitable ideas. Some have resorted to becoming taxi cab drivers to earn a crust, but this is definitely not the best option. Mini cab drivers have to labour long and very unsociable hours in order to make a decent living.
A few of my associates and people I have talked to have been thinking about retraining but are in some doubt what type course to follow and in what type of area to retrain in. You have to ask your self what is the purpose of retraining as a palsaterer or a joiner when there is very little work out there for this type of trade at the present time? It is quite a hard decision to make and a bit of hit and miss affair, if you retrain in the right field then you will definitely be in with a chance of getting a good job. But on the other side of the coin if you retrain in a field where there are very few employment position's, then your time and efforts retraining could be wasted.
So what are the future prospects for jobs in Liverpool, no one really knows for sure our country's leaders are telling us things are improving but nothing seems to be changing for working class families. I think it may be just a case of riding out the blizzard and waiting for the recession to slow down. In theses time of economic hard ship one has to be resourceful and use your initiative to survive, any ideas or opportunities that come your way should be taken especially if you are not working and have a family to support. The opportunities that do come your way may not be the dream scenario that you envisaged but in this day and age you should be considering at all the alternatives available. The recession will not last for ever even if it seems that way at the present moment in time…
